Lower Hope Gardens
In 2020 we will be open 5 times during the year to the public - always on a Sunday afternoon 2pm to 5pm.
You will be given a plan/map of the gardens on entry and you can take your time wandering around.
On some garden open days there are choirs or local bands to entertain you as you walk round or enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of locally produced cake (or two!!) by the Oast House.
The Head Gardener Brian Hall is always on hand to answer any gardening questions you may have.
We have a visitor book and would be delighted if you could spare a few minutes to write your thoughts or give some feedback on your experience during your visit.
We pride ourselves of being wheelchair friendly for the main areas of the gardens.
Assistance dogs only are permitted to enter the gardens.
All funds raised from entry fees and teas/cakes on National Garden Scheme days are donated to the NGS and with a small percentage going to a designated charity of our choice, which changes every year.
Guest Charity Open Days
In August we invite a charity to use the gardens for the afternoon to raise funds.
They must be able to staff and publicise the event themselves. If your charity would like to be considered in the future for a charity date (there is a waiting list) please register your interest with Gill Dayson here.
Please note that you must have plenty of volunteers to be able cover the entrance and the tea/cake area.
2020's guest charity on Sunday 9 August is St Michael's Hospice.
Dates for public visits
Entry £6 adult £1 child
Sunday 5 April (NGS)
Sunday 17 May (NGS)
Sunday 5 July (NGS)
Sunday 9 August (charity)

Private garden visits can be catered for. They take place the Monday to Friday immediately following a public or charity opening date and are held in the morning or afternoon (excluding Friday afternoon and there are no evening visits). Teas/cakes can be served on request. There must be at least 20 people in your party and the charge is £10 per head inc tea/cake. If you are interested in further information please contact Gill Dayson here or telephone during office hours 01432 820557 to request an application form. A deposit will be required to secure a private visit.
They are only available by booking in advance and are limited. These dates do fill up very quickly so if you are considering it for your group, don't delay getting in touch.
Cherry Blossom Day
Lower Hope Fruit, which is part of the Estate and a short drive away from the gardens, have a Cherry Blossom Day earlier in the year. This is a spectacular sight! Winner of the prestigious Award "Top Fruit Grower of the Year" in 2011 and 2015.
Again, a charity is invited to raise funds by running this event and selling tickets to the public. This takes quite a lot of organising but the financial benefits are potentially huge. If you are interested in knowing more about this please contact the Farm Manager, Simon Wells here
Once the date for the Cherry Blossom Day is set and tickets are available the relevant charity and contact details will be published here - so please keep checking if you are interested in buying a visitor ticket, the numbers of which will be limited. This will be the only day of the year that visitors will be permitted to the Cherry Orchards.
